The image depicts how people nowadays are addicted to expressing themselves in the public space of social media even when they gather for Mother’s Day. The focus of their attention is first on the self, taking pictures of themselves. They are using Mother’s Day as an opportunity to produce a self image unique to the occasion. Their interest to celebrate the mother, which I believe is present, seems to be driven into the background. Probably as a result, the mother looks unhappy, both on Mother’s Day and on other days. (90 words)

この絵は,たとえ母の日のために集まっていても, ソーシャルメディアという公共の場での自己表現にはまっている現代人の姿が描かれている。彼らの関心はまず,自分自身を撮影する自己に向いている。 彼らは母の日を機会に、その場ならではの自分を演出している。母親を祝うという関心はあると思うが, それが背景に追いやられている ようだ。おそらくそのせいで、母の日もそれ以外の日も、母親は不幸な顔をしているのではないだろうか。
